What we need in the Family Room is more along the lines of an eDesign-lite service – at least for the immediate future. We plan to fully redecorate this room once the basement has been finished (hopefully a few years down the road). We’re currently thinking that the sofa (if it still has a useful life) from this room will be relocated to the basement at that time. We’re undecided what to do with the other pieces in the future. However, we’re not overly attached to the rug as it really does tend to limit our color possibilities. Since we’re not quite ready for a full overhaul of this room, we’d like to work with what we already have in the room. Our main focus is some sort of decorative scheme on the bookshelves (things were quite literally thrown on the shelves just to get them out of the way with no thought to aesthetics), mantel and adding additional lighting. One of our big issues with both the Family Room and half of the kitchen is not enough lighting. We’d like some lamps to sit on a console table (moved from the entryway) behind the sofa (along the side with the windows) and also like some ceiling or wall mounted lighting to illuminate the gallery wall that leads to the Study/Playroom.
In addition, we also have a few construction plans for this room. They include:
1. Reversing the door leading from the Family Room to the outside deck. This is not only for easier access to the deck (especially when entertaining), but will also allow us to hang some sort of drapery panels without them getting caught in the door opening.
2. Adding some ceiling interest. We’re currently thinking some sort of rustic beams or faux (but realistic) rustic beams.
3. Adding additional recessed lighting in the ceiling.
